pulling out the 40k league

hello!!! I spose this post is best directed at Steve, I'm really sorry to be difficult but i'm gonna pull out of the 40k league for a number of reasons!! 1 now i have a basic grasp of the rules i can see when their being breached 2 since the league has started people have become so concerned about winning that games are becoming unenjoyable for myself! 3 i dont think its fair that anyone of the experienced players has to play me not because my lack of gaming experience provides little challenge for experienced players! plus its a bit demeaning entering a game where the opponents openly negitive about playing you,everyones gotta start somewhere!! though i'd like to emphasize that if the shoe was on the other foot i'd probably be the same!
All said and done i'm happy to play anyone of similar experience or get involved in anything thats open to beginners provided that we look up everything that is in doubt! if me pulling out of the league is a problem then i'll be forced to surrender to everyone in advance and come and collect my boobie prize be shammed next week!!! i beleave me pulling out will also make things more exciting for those left in it as i was pretty much a certainty that i was gonna come last now it will be one of you guys! sorry to be a pain but it is what it is!!! ben f

Hi mate it's elvis. Who is making you feel this way coz at the end of the day we are all new to this so there is nobody there that is no all. As for the league mate who cares I for one don't give a crap if I come bottom as long as I have fun. I for one get more pissed about the ppl outside of the game getting involved and cheating me out of a good game. At the end of the day mate if ppl are like that don't play them then they get no points then they can't brag. But have a talk with steve

... Well even if your post seems for Steve, as a gamer I can just say I'm not really happy that you're pulling out. Not sure which Ben you are (I'm lost between the names and usernames...) but being sure I haven't played against you yet, I am surely disappointed. I love being competitive, I love building my army around units I like to be able to make the most of them. I love doing this, not only for me, but with everyone else I'm playing with/against, thinking and helping them building their own force. I think I spend more time talking with players about units, helping each other to make our armies more competitive, well it's part of the game.

Risk obviously being, there is a point when people become too competitive, armies are optimised and winning against starts to be difficult... And annoying...

About attitudes, all players aren't the same, and although I want to win and I will play to win, it won't go before enjoying the game; both enjoying the game. When I play, rules are clear, if unclear, they are checked in the rule book, not guessed in my advantage, and if still unclear, rolled on a dice to decide. This is probably why people don't like me being next to their table when they are playing and I'm not: rules have to be right.

Hope I'm not moving too much the subject. I like this game, I want play it, and most of all want to enjoy it. I'd love to play a game against you eventually, outside of the "league" as you obviously prefer, honestly I'm not bothered, I don't even know if our last game was counted or not.

Just don't pull out mate you got much more to enjoy. Any advice on your army, just ask.

Hi Ben, thanks for letting me know about how you are feeling about the league. Im sorry that you have had some bad experiences in your games. I had intended the league to add a sort of extra dimension to the 'one off' games that we often play each week, and that win or lose it would provide some more entertainment- not at the expense of those that may come last and not to flatter the egos of those that often win. You are correct in that many of us have differing levels of playing experience- and that there are some of us that play a more comeptitive game. As has already been mentioned I would also be more than willing to help you out with your army lists, and perhaps it would be beneficial to match up the more inexperienced players in games, and appoint a GM (I would be happy to do that) to ensure that the correct rules were been used - and most of all that all parties and a fun game that didnt feel like a turkey shoot.

On your point about some players wishing to play you (and other less experienced players) in order to earn league points, I can see you point of view- you take no joy in playing a game in which you feel there is no chance of winning (and why would you) and I would hope that they walk away with a sense of a hollow victory- brought about by exploitation of your inexperience and manipulation of the rules. The net result is no fun all round. Some of the best games Ive played of late have been close fought affairs that really came down to the last turn of the game- notably against Steveos SW's and Elvis's Chaos marines.

In the end its your descion of course, but I would ask that you stick with it for a bit, Im not sure that I have played you myself? but as I said perhaps matching some of the different players against others of comparable experience might help, and if you dont wish it to count as a 'league' game then dont.

Most of all I think it is up to people like myself and others in the club with more experience to actively encourage fair and respectful play, so we can all have a laugh when my brightlances fail to hit for the fifth consequtive time or when Stephanes guard fail their 'gets hot' saving throw for the plasma gunners

i'm not gonna stop coming burger or anything i just feel that i'd get more enjoyment playing new starters! i totally appriciate the time and effect your putting in to the group as what with one thing or another i dont have time to scratch my ass! and i dont have a Mrs or nippers to sort out!!! i also appreciate the offer to help try to draw up a better army list and will bear it in mind! i am in total agreement about your comments on hollow victorys ect which is why i'd like to pull out as i feel every game would one for my opponent!!!!! if i didnt enjoy the group and like most of the guys i'd of just dissapeared thanks for being so understanding guys and catch youy next tuseday

Ben if you ever want to team up with my IG for a league or otherwise i have no problem with it i go into every game expecting to lose because after all i have overpowered laserpens and cardboard armour and generally fear anything that has the ability to move towards my troops

Thats what i'd say my Suits are made of but more precisly cardboard and i just dont shoot strait >.<

elvis mate i got some of those wings you were after mate it was on one of my possessed but ebay glued it on with super glue!!! so i'll bring it along on tuseday get us a small coke and you can have it mate! i should of left the my chaos last week as i was still busy trying to assemble/model 40 khorne bezerkers the one armed guy in GW said 'with 2 20 man units oof khorne bezerkers you'd struggle to go wrong! just run them up the table' i'm not sure who's who on here yet but cheers commissoner i'll bring a dark angels force i dont think your IG would like working with chaos dude!!

it would be good to try and include tony i hope he doesnt mind me saying thats he's also quite new he has getting on for a 1000 chaos so if he could team up with someone all us nubes could get a causal game on! fred who i played last week is quite new to 5th edition phrehaps he has some models that would tie in!

if we can't find a fourth person with a k we could always do a three way that would be fun/scary not exactly sure how it works but i'm sure between us and a lot ummm and arghhhing we should be ok

I just proposed myself for another game against Tom Elvis and Steve, but if you fancy teaming up against a 2k army or more I could field this. Or we can just do a couple of teams and see what happens... How many players and how many points do you each wanna field ?

i put together a 1000 points dark angels! yeah i'm cool i'll play anyone long as its fun fot them too! i got a case coming from ebay so bringing 2 sets of models will be possible!!

I'll also bring 1000pts of guard. I guess that's 4 people for a 2000pts game team up then or 2 games if we wanna finish earlier. I'll try not to be too late tomo (hate my job...)
