Re: fantasy tactics
Beastmen are creatures of the dark forests and as such have learnt to use the terrain to their advantage. They are master trappers and ambushers, revelling in surrounding an enemy force and then attacking from all different angles to confuse and overwhelm the foe. Although lightly armoured and deprived of well-maintained weapons and equipment, Beastmen rely on their tough hides, brute strength and a primal fury that can surface as Hatred and Frenzy during the game.
The Bretonnian army is all about heroic charges led by valorous knights. These elite cavalry are the centre to the force and you'll need to rely on them to win your games. Because most of the force is mounted, it's a very swift army and can get into combat fast. Individual models in the Bretonnian army are quite expensive, but this comes with a respectable durability.
The Daemons of Chaos are a harrowing army to face upon the tabletop. Benefiting from a huge variety of differently skilled specialist troops and with access to many of the mightiest monsters in Warhammer they are not to be underestimated. With a Daemons of Chaos army you can unleash a relentless, unflinching offensive knowing that every model in your army is utterly fearless and will not flee from the foe.
Dark Elves, much like their High Elf cousins, are extremely quick and highly skilled. The lowest Movement rate and Initiative in the army is 5, which makes them some of the quickest troops in the game. Their biggest advantage, however, is that they Hate everybody. This means that they will re-roll missed hits against any foe in close combat - few armies, if any, can hope to have that level of combat precision. Dark Elves roll a lot of dice, both in shooting and close combat - their basic troops are Warriors and Corsairs, who can both bring a lot of attacks to battle. Their mainstay missile troops also have Multiple Shot weapons, which fire two shots each. Whilst these attacks aren't exactly 'strong', only being Strength 3 each, they are accurate and there are a lot of them.
The Dwarfs have some of the hardest, most durable troops in Warhammer - the lowest Toughness in the army is 4, and their armour is excellent (Slayers notwithstanding). When fighting in deep formations this durability means that they are really hard to shift. A high Leadership value, combined with plenty of ranks means that they simply won't run away, barring a dice-rolling catastrophe.
There's no army more elite than the High Elves in all of Warhammer. Their warriors are all experts in their own field of combat and used with care and precision they are capable of besting any foe. But such skill does not come cheaply and the High Elves are among the most costly warriors in Warhammer and, for all their prowess, they are individually frag
The Lizardman army is extremely versatile, containing all manner of units from the diminutive (and expendable) Skinks, to fearsome close combat troops such as Saurus Warriors and even massive monsters such as the Stegadon. They're also well served for variety, with heavy cavalry, swift fliers, powerful Mages and drop-dead super hard characters. In short, the Lizardmen have it all! The hardest choice a Lizardmen general faces is what to leave out of his force.
Orcs & Goblins are an army unlike any other. They are a diverse lot with a plethora of different troop types, monsters and war machines from which to select your army. When all goes well for a greenskin commander (called a Warboss) he will rule an unstoppable horde, able to shift the right kinds of units (called mobs in a greenskin army) to the exact place in the battleline where they are needed to crush, pummel or otherwise stomp the foe into the dust.
The Skaven army combines the attributes of a horde army –vast regiments of expendable troops – with some truly devastating weaponry. Expect fireworks aplenty as you use Warpfire Throwers, Ratling Guns, Rat Ogres and more to weaken the enemy and your massive regiments of Clanrats and Storm Vermin to sweep aside the remnan
The Empire army has regiments that can fulfil every role required on the battlefield. Elite close combat troops are available in the form of Greatswords and Knights, devastating long-range firepower in the form of Crossbowmen, Handgunners and artillery. With an Empire army you can adopt any style of warfare or a combination of several, using versatility and flexibility of the troops at your disposal to achieve victory.
One of the things that best characterises the Vampire Counts army is the fact that it's very hard to make it stay dead. Every unit in the army can be replenished and many can even be increased in number beyond their starting size! You can even create brand-new units in the midst of battle, raising units of Zombies behind your foe.
The Warriors of Chaos advance implacably across the battlefield, shrugging off wounds that would fell lesser men. They are almost exclusively close combatants, relying on their Chaos armour to protect them from harm. Once in melee there is little in the Warhammer world that can stand up to them.
The Wood Elves are incredibly hard hitting, capable of delivering a powerful knock-out blow. Their missile fire is superlative and their determined long-range bowfire is a match for any other missile-armed foe. A canny Wood Elf general can utilise the army's natural agility and potent firepower to devastating effect.
