Dryads treekin and treemen are all good but watch out for flaming attacks . Wood elves are awesome with bows. Waywatchers are some off the best scouting troops in the game but expensive. Hail of doom arrow is a nice item. And wardancers are fun.

I guess it depends if shes looking to paint some nice models or is trying to get a decent list for games. As you know in 8th Ed Woodies are at a disadvantage atm due mainly to the skirmish rules they were designed for (in 6-7th Ed) being changed so dramatically. As far as list buliding goes I would recommend dryads, small units of archers (some of the best still in the game), treekin are hard hitters in CC. treeman are nice but costly in smaller games (model isnt all that although there are rumours of a plastic one soon), wardancers are awesome imho and I love the eternal guard models but they are expensive in game for what they do. the lords are difficult as they are costly leaving one the choice of either going either with magic or combat at lower point levels. Sam at club plays Woodies and Im sure hes got some good advice too.
For lists and everything wood elf I recommend looking here:

for painting fun its got to be spellsingers, dryads and wardancers
hope that helps
