Wathammer 40k is a gothic sci fi tabletop wargame using 28mm miniatures, it is probably the most popular game of its type.
It is produced by games workshop, the game is usually of two or more small sized armies having a skirmish battle though there are rules for increasing the size of the battle.

or simply 40K) is a tabletop miniature wargame produced by Games Workshop, set in a science fantasy universe. Warhammer 40,000 was
created by Rick Priestley in 1988 as the futuristic
companion to Warhammer Fantasy Battle,
sharing many game mechanics. Expansions for Warhammer 40,000 are
released from time to time which give rules for urban, planetary siege
and large-scale combat, respectively. The game is currently in its fifth
edition.
