Bloodbowl NAF Championships 19th-20th May 2012 GW HQ Lenton
See the link to TFF, but tickets went on sale for the NAF Championships 8/2!
I'm reffing, generous bribes may well affect your ranking (NOT)
I've room for 3 in my car, but note I'm leaving Friday morning, first come first served...the NAf are paying for my accomodation (probably sharing a room with Darkson again
The NAf Championship
We can confirm the venue and dates of the NAF Championship next year:
19th and 20th of May 2012 at Warhammer World, Nottingham.
Bit of an update:
-price will remain £40 - including three meals, giveaway gift for all, prizes, trophies etc.
-rules will be exactly the same as last year (For your reference, the 2011 rules can be found here: http://thenaf.net/downloads/naf_champ.pdf )
-entrants will be invited to pre-register their rosters before the event, to speed up the registration process
-maximum capacity is 240
The 2012 rules pack should be ready before the end of the year, tickets should going on sale in January. Ticket sale date will be announced asap.
*In one change, unfortunately non-GW miniatures cannot be used at Warhammer World any longer. Any miniatures not manufactured by GW will have to be removed by the events team. Giving plenty of pre-warning here in case anyone has teams planned for the event which include non-GW figures.*
Looking forward to it. More than happy to field questions prior to the rulespack being released.

Nope, not going to b there this year, for 2 reasons:Giraffe wrote:I've room for 3 in my car, but note I'm leaving Friday morning, first come first served...the NAf are paying for my accomodation (probably sharing a room with Darkson again
1. I completely disagree with the NAF letting GW dictate to them on models, when they don't give a flying lovely-jubbely about BB, and
2. My brother gets married the weekend after, and it's his stag do the weekend before, and the chances of me getting 3 (long) weekends off in a row are slim to none.

seriously? thats a bit petty considering that they have allowed pictures of non GW conversion pieces on their own website...
if they are going to ruin that then i might have to reconsider ever picking up a block dice...

Grumbledook, seat reserved...coming back sunday.
Elvis I might be able to find you a GW vampire team to borrow for the weekend, seeing as they are being strict on this policy...pretty sure my brother's got one he might lend me (not sure if they are painted though)...if so would you be interested?
...I don't think this ruling is any different to a 40k tourney though...
...I cannot imagine them letting me play my war machine warjacks as terminators, for example...
...still Darkson has a point, they never seem to care for us poor bloodbowlers...plus at least I don't have to share a room with him now
Where is your Stag Do Simon? Have a good one, we'll miss you(r militance) at Lenton matie...
Benj don't let GW spoil your enjoyment of Bloodbowl, even if GW don't care for it, the NAF do!
It's nice to see attendance to the Tourney is increasing (and the ticket price is decreasing) now GW don't run this event any more...

actually, at some tournaments, as long as the models you use are of a similar style (warjack terminators for example) most non GW run tournaments don't mind too much!
I'm not letting GW spoil my appetite, it just gets to me that they have to ruin most things, I know they are the retailers for the Bloodbowl specific line, but they havent seemed to be bothered about sticking their oar in till now...
and lastly, a bit of a coincidence isnt it?

Re: Bloodbowl NAF Championships 19th-20th May 2012 GW HQ Lenton
Actually GW have insisted on this for a few years now...it's a business reaction to the increasing competition they are receiving from small press manufactures, hence why they are so hard regarding IP on small margin games such as Bloodbowl ...plus imagine if an impact miniatures team won best painted? Lets be honest, a spanking new team from a small press would get more impact and support than the 1994(?or thereabouts) ancient GW Bloodbowl models...but people every year still come up with amazing GW conversions...
Simon has faithfully complained about GW's Big Brotherness every year, as the bloodbowl communities unofficial "voice of anarchy", a bit like Vivian off the Young Ones it's a credit to his tenacity that he hasn't given it up yet, nor will he ever, I expect...I can see the words "GW can kiss my *ss" or words to that effect on his gravestone ...
NAF tourneys are cheaper than GW tourneys as NAF staff donate their time...so the event is run not-for-profit from the NAF's point of view (llast year with the profit they made they bought everyone a free drink, partly to combat the intense heat caused by GW's Air Conditioning Breaking Down...) ,...but even then GW won't provide the Lenton hall, food or anything else for that matter without making some profit on it...they'd charge you to breathe if they could

Re: Bloodbowl NAF Championships 19th-20th May 2012 GW HQ Lenton
iirc last year was the only year that you were allowed to use non GW minis (the world cup in 2007 as well but that's a different event)
I agree it is annoying (I was going to get a slaan team painted up of no gw minis) but every event has a downsides and in the scheme of things for organising an event for nearly 200 people and then feeding them all etc, it isn't an overly terrible trade off, sure it isn't necessary (as shown by it not being a rule last year) but in the overall scheme of things unless someone is going to step up and find something comparable for the price I can live with it
at least the price has dropped down from the £55 they used to charge and also badly run, £40 for what is an improved version of the same event is something to be happy about
sure GW do a lot of business first decisions that we may hate, but this one you can't really blame them even if we don't like it

Re: Bloodbowl NAF Championships 19th-20th May 2012 GW HQ Lenton
Of course I can blame them, it's not their event anymore - they didn't want to run it, so an independent group is running it's own BB tournament there. It's not as if it's even the same event, because G wouldn't let the NAF use the name "Blood Bowl". I could live with this stupid rule if it was the GT, but it's not anymore.Grumbledook wrote:sure GW do a lot of business first decisions that we may hate, but this one you can't really blame them even if we don't like it
They let other independent tournaments use non-GW figures there, why not this one? Surely can't have anything to do with the fact a game they'd rather die can attract 200-odd people to play? [sarcasm off]
But that said, I think unless someone can find a place that would host and feed for free (yeah, right!), it will always be at GW HQ, because some NAF staffers have got this strange idea that it's a great venue.
Assuming I can get the time off, I'll probably be back next year to staff it, but until this stupid rule is dropped, I don't think I'll be playing again.

Re: Bloodbowl NAF Championships 19th-20th May 2012 GW HQ Lenton
You blame them as an alternative to firebombing them, I presume...
It is a silly rule from our point of view, but then again GW look very silly treating their customers the way they do, yet still are making more mulah than Bill Gate's Tax attorney...
I prefer the title "NAF Champs" to "BBGT" too, it feels like it belongs more to "da peeples".
To me, it's a FANTASTIC venue, it looks like a CASTLE godddammit(ok, I'm a kid), and my fondest bloodbowl tourney memories are there:
It is the tournament I've been to the most times, and for all it's failings it's why I wanted to run my own tourney (so I could go one better than GW )
It's a shame you're not playing, I still owe you a beating from Spiky the other year (I could use my wooden spoon!)

- Getting SLAUGHTERED on 9 pints of Guiness and Chilli Vodka at BUGMANS
- Friday evening 'Friends Reunited' at the The White Hart
- My first Thrudball recruitment drive
- Staggering up "Argument Street" towards Beeston with my kid brother
- Having to share a double bed with a TFF Moderator who just WONT STOP fidgeting , and PRAYING he's just fidgeting
