Guardsman to plasma or not to plasma?
Hey guys going to start a guard army and will be getting some basic troops soon and wanted some heads up when it comes to troops composition. I.E power fist/sword on sgt and what type of weapons to take if any?. Keep it cheep or make it flexible. Any help or advice would be great thanks :-).

Re: Guardsman to plasma or not to plasma?
Guards men tend to hit last and are week so a power fist is not a bad idea for the sgt and seeing as you have tones of troops plasma is a good all round weapon and if you lose the odd man to overheating you have a tone more where they came from.
Missile launchers are all round good option but lack real tank penetration so a few lass cannons would be a good idea as well
The new imp guard kits might have plastic special weapons if you are lucky

Keep them cheap as your main strength is numbers and if you start adding everything to then they will become pricey. This is a problem as you cannot use all there cool gear in every turn or vs every opponent. Give them krak if you are going to go charging in to take on tanks in close combat but you will most likely die before you get there.
If you got a sarge with power fist you don’t need to worry about krak and ideally you want to blow stuff at range not in combat.
Plasma is more all-round weapon with better range and rate of fire not to mention AP and str.
But melta guns and flamers have their place in the right situation.
For a static unit I would say plasma
For a unit in a transport I would say either flamer or melta would be a good call depending on what you want them to do.

Re: Guardsman to plasma or not to plasma?
A lot of guard players ive seen or talked to in tournaments are saying and using power axes on sargeants, mostly on platoon squads as you get an extra attack, +1 strength and ap2, for really cheap. If you want special weapons, go for veterans in a chimera, they are BS4 and can be very versatile with plasma, most of your anti tank can come from your vendettas, 3 twin lascannons on a flyer wih a transport capacity is a great combo with veterans with plasma and a demo charge. There are a lot of options available to you, so try stuff out and find your playstile and have fun! Hope this helps

Lol sooooooo many choices. It's too easy to just start adding points to them. It's like going shopping with a list but your really hungry. End up leaving with alot more than what u wanted lol. But thanks guys with your advice. I sapose it just ends up how u like to play them with the bling or just a shed tone of them. Thanks again :-)
