Battle mission next week Elvis ?
We're going for 2k Necron/IG next week aren't we. Do you fancy trying one of the Battle Missions. They're good, pretty balanced but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. Basically there are 3 missions for each 40k race, in every one og them, the race concerned is the attacker. But any army could play these.
For us on Tuesday, best idea IMO would be to take the 3 missions for IG and Necron and roll a die for it. I'll leave the rules here; they're in french so I prefer if you know them before we start next week (I know how competitive you are, I'm not at all ) Bear with me, the translation is goblin trash.
IG
Planned assault:
Deployement zones are half of the table. Defender deploys first, IG after, at least 18" from any unit. No reserve allowed. One objective in the centre of the table, the other one in the centre of defender's deployment zone. After deployment IG places a third objectif wherever in the defender's zone. Defender gets one Bombardment marker, I get two (special rules to release them). On 2+ I get first turn.
War of attrition:
Deployment zones are half on the table. Defender deploys first, IG after in his zone, but no other restriction. All troops have to be on the table, everything else is allowed reserve. All our troops that are destroyed are "recycled", coming from our table edge (which is the same as normal, plus the side up to the median line). Victory is counted with "real" points for all the destroyed units.
Entrenched war:
1D3+2 objectives, IG places the first one. Deployment zones are further than 12" away from median line. Defender deploys first troops and heavy support, IG does the same after. Units with dedicated transport, and everything else is kept in reserve. IG gets first turn on 2+. Special rules: As long as a unit hasn't moved it counts as being in 4+ cover. We can also deploy some obstacles.
Necron
Ambush:
Defender deploys within 12" from the median line, Necorn then deploys more than 12" away from median line (both sides if wants to) Necron gets first turn on 4+. Necron can put everything in reserve. Defender can't have any. Annihilation points. Defenders units can flee from table width in that case they don't count as KP.
Recon in force:
1D3+2 objectives necron places first one. Necron decides secretly from which table edge his units are coming from. Defender deploys 12" away from table edge. Necrons get first turn, units can arrive on first turn, or can be kept in reserve. Defender can't keep stuff in reserve. War fog rule: on first turn, to shoot or charge units must pass a Leadership test. Units that can't shoot can run instead.
Relentless advance:
Table is divided in 3 equal parts. 3 objectives, one in middle of each part. Necron deploys first, IG then deploys on the opposite part. All reserve allowed, no ouflanking allowed, reserve come from edge of deployment zone. Necron has first turn on 2+. Any unit not Fearless get Stubborn. An objective is secured when a unit (any, but must be "operational") within 3" at the end of his turn; a secured objective stays under the player's control even if he moves away (can be secured by ennemy after though, following same rules).
Here you go. Read that and tell me what you think. That'd be great and fluffy for the campaign if we use those.
