Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
Lol no as you are only one person……… even if you have more than one personality
Remember you can use one codex that is your primary and you chose your avatar from but you can use allies.
So if you have chosen grey knights your primary detachment must compose of units from that codex along with your avatar but you could use sisters as allies……….. this all gest more complicated with unbound mind you lol

If 7th allows it then you can do it……….. though It might be an idea to forewarn your opponent about it before hand.
Unbound can be powerfull but you can more or less do the same with a bound army now and with much better benefits

Sound fair to me lol
No one can make you play after all and if someone takes a really cheesy list they might well find they have not one to play.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
And I thought I would try my hand at some little fluffy bits to describe what is happening on Regis.
Let us know what you think. more will flows as and when I can.
Brother Captain Garon felt the the grey knight cruiser “Devine Blade” plunge back into the relative safety of real space, if all went well they should be in the Regis system, though after the harrowing journey thought warp they had just taken he would be happy to be within 100 light years and thank the expert navigator for getting them that close.
Either way he would know in a few moments once the servitors had calculated the coordinates the Prognosticars had sent them to.
As the shutters that protected them from viewing the warp directly went up and the long-range sensors came online he was in no doubt they were in the right system.
Even at this distance, on the very edge of the Regis system he could see tell tell signs of void combat with his enhanced vision, blasts of engine flare and lance beams as tiny pinpricks of light around a gas giant.
A swirling warp rift could be seen of the starboard bow as well as an immense field of wreckage. Most telling of all though was the near overwhelming feeling he got when there was a near daemon breach about to happen, like a dame about to burst forth the contents of hell.
Turning to the ship’s captain Garon said “Plot a trajectory and take us to Regis 4 Captain at best speed……. And destroy anything that gets in the way friend or foe”
With that Garon turned back to view the system once more before heading down to the chapel to get ready for what would come.
Dalon was, or rather once was, a simple butcher supplying food to the citizens of East hold, most people would have described him as the typical jolly fat butcher who enjoyed his job.…….. The fact that the meat was of a less then legitimate or ethical origin was in not doubt to anybody at the price he offered, but then no one suspected it was a convenient place to dispose of the body’s his blood cult wanted rid of.
Now with the city well and truly in chaos cultist hands he was free to enjoy his work on a much larger free roaming scale, that was till his skills where noticed and called upon by one of the Chaos space marine lords who had taken to using East hold as a base of operations.
Today’s task found Dalon in a large basement with 3 other cultist under one of the inner city buildings happily butchering live captives and draining the blood from his butchers block into a bucket that would then be thrown over some fool of a psychic who was to slow to escape the city.
Each time the bucket was upended over the psychic he would scream like a loon and thrash around the floor as much as his bindings would allow him for the next 10 minutes before collapsing as a gibbering wreck.
As the last of the blood drained along with the screams from the 8th of Dalons victum Baris took the blood filled bucked at he had been told and upended it over the psychic long abandoning any effort to avoid getting blood over himself and stepped back from the thrashing that was sure to follow.
Instead of the uncontrolled fits the psycher just seemed to stand up on end and then spontaneously float in mid-air with his mouth open in a silent scream. If Baris had lived long enough to describe what happened next he would have said that the psycher seemed to tern inside out from his mouth while growing into some winged nightmare at the same time in some imposable manner, as it was his head exploded as a result of standing so close to birth of a blood thirstier into the material realm.
Dalon fell to his knees at seeing such a perfect personification of his lord gods form made real, the others less devote tried to run but a whip crack and they were down and bleeding and then it turned its ancient hate filled eyes to him. though he knew what was to come he did not care, did not fear, for like all his most devoted kin he knew his god cared not where the blood flows from only that it flows, “blood for the blood god” where his last words uttered in that room before the screams started and the blood flowed free.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
Privet Simmons looked along the seemingly endless line of imperial guard forces that made up the northern quarantine line, most of them had set up the day before with only a few grim eyed veterans having held the line before. preaches and commissioners moved amongst the men giving inspiring orientation while units of the logistics core deployed supplies of ammo and equipment to units in what seemed a random manner. Hundreds of Leman russ tanks could be seen of every sort and beyond them the even larger forms of super heavy tanks and imperial knights could be seen taking up key strong points in the line. Further back with the barrels angled up like spears where the basilisk artillery companies and dotted around the place a number of hydra AA batteries and amongst it all where thousands of imperil guard from half dozen worlds. All in all it was one hell of a sight.
“Nothing and no one was to make it past them”, or rather that was the gist of the orders they were given. Who or why this might be he had not been told but it must be something big to need so many men and machines in one place with all the hell braking loose to the east. With a start that nearly mad Simmons loosen his bowls all along the line batteries of a dozen or more basilicas opened fire, there earth shaker cannons opened up in a series of earth shaking and bone rattling unison that seemed to go on and on. Simmons could not see what they were shooting at at such an extreme range but he could see the flash of explosions from all the way back here and started to think nothing could survive that barrage of fire when battle cannons from Leman russ and the imperial knights also opened up as well as a blinding flash of light from several of the super heavy tanks.
That could only mean that whatever they were shooting at had gotten a lot closer faster than anything had a right to.
Nervously Simmons clutched his las gun and strained to see what was being shot at over the barricade wall, he quickly wish he had not.
As vast as the imperial lines where what faced them was larger still with things that matched even the imperial knights in size and smaller things that scrambled over one another in the haste to get to them.
Lascannons and missile launchers opened up now meaning they had gotten closer still and it would soon be his turn to face them. orders where being shouted but it was hard to hear them over the constant din of fire from the big guns but his officers enthusiastic use of hand gestures and sware signs did the job and he brought his las gun to bare ready to add his own fire to the rain of death that pummelled this alien enemy.
The smaller creatures came rushing forward and where torn apart as they were hit by a wall of las gun fire and heavy stubber rounds and as Simmons watched the bigger ones succumbed to the weight of fire bearing down on them. the knights stepped forward to breach any gaps and keep the monsters from there lines. After what seemed like a life time the guns went quiet and all that was left was a carpet of dead bugs. They had gotten close to the barricades as his postion and some even breached them in others but the line had held and the day won. It was not an easy victory by any means, dozens of Leman Russ where smoking wrecks and even one of the imperial knights had fallen and the less he thought about what those bug guns did to infantry men the better. Suddenly the earth exploded amongst the nearest hydra squadron sending 2 of the flying though the sky like toys as a trio of giant snake creatures monstrosities reared up and then fell upon the hydras position, small arms fire was all that met them at first but soon lager guns turned on them but they seemed forgo any self-preservation in an effort to destroy the hydras, finally an imperial knight charged in cutting one in half with his chain weapon before ramming his heat weapon into the midriff of another and turning it inside out. But by then the hydras where down and by the sounds of it similar things had happened all along the line, smaller snake like creatures tore out the hole the bigger ones had left and suddenly a deadly game of cat and mouse began around the burning wreckage of tanks and struggling giants. That’s when the screaming started, descending from the clouds giant bat winged monstrosities descended on the guards lines in massive numbers.
Simmons was not sure how long the fighting had gone on or where his unit was but he was alive and sitting on a part of a…… well he was pretty sure it was part of a Leman russ tank but it was hard to tell, all around him wrecked tanks were being taken off by Adeptus Mechanics forces and the dead and wounded where likewise being removed from the field in there thousands and kill teams where dispatching anything that looked dodgy. He could see transports coming in to land, no doubt to get them out of here. he was still staring at the transports when a grizzled old guardsman in a uniform he did not recognised stopped in passing and gave him a half-hearted smile “don’t get your hopes up lad, that is fresh meet for the grinder they are brining, not your ticket home ”
Simmons must have looked dumbfounded cos the mystery guard’s man shrugged and said “this is my 3rd day on the line lad and they have all more or less been like this one, better check your weapon lad cos you can bet you’ll be needing it by night fall”. The guardsman wondered off as the first transports landed and sure enough fresh men and machines disembarked and made their way to their positions. Simmons looked at his las gun to the disembarking troops before taking out his kit and started to strip it down for cleaning, and then he would see about finding his unit.
Just another day in the guard.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
Grok was not a happy Ork, not by a long way and even chopping body’s into bloody chunks with his power claw could not cheer him up, it was just not the same without the screaming and struggling. The day had started with the promise of mindless violence and bloodshed when they came across a warring bunch of Oomans who had not seemed to notice him and his boys till they had torn into them. One bunch had dun a runner and the other lot where held up in some building and Grok had to sit down and let the rocket boyz blast them out before he could get at em, the only thing was the idiots tended to miss more often than not, and worst of all Brax and his boyz had turned up to and Grok dint much feel like sharing.
With a sudden roar from the other side of the building Grok cursed and beat his boyz into action. Either Brax had gotten in or the Oomans where making a brake for it. sure enough as Grok and his lot rounded the corner there was a big old scuffle at a hole in the side of the building and Brax was in the thick of it, and it looked like a good scrap to. Grok was just about to order his boys in when one of the Oomans started to scream and float off the floor, a moment later and he exploded in a wicked way and in his place stood some big ugly bleeder with wings and a wicked looking axe. The thing cut Brax in half with one swipe and the rest of his boys in not much less time.
Grok was well happy now, Brax was dead and there was a zonking big beasty there for him to have a go at, and he liked the axe to. With an evil grin he snapped his power claw open and shut a few times before shoving the closed ork over and shouting “biggen’s mine!” and with that charged in with his boyz at his heels.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
I have created a avatar reward table on my master excel sheet along with random number generator.
You get 1 reward for every 4 victory’s your avatar achieve with up to 3 rewards each.
There are 8 reward 5 of them being rolls on relevant warlord trait tables (so you could get up to 4 warlord traits including the one you start with)
1 is an escape plan that allows your avatar to cheat death on a roll of a 6.
And 2 are buffed power swords that are unique. Nothing two powerful but if your avatar manages to kill the wielder of this weapon then it becomes yours and is a free weapon you may use or not as you wish. if anyone else kills the wielder of the weapon then it goes back into the reward list till it is rolled once more.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
Hello chaps
As the time grows near I am would like to get some ideas for you for some one off missions for the campaign.
One idea is the battle of Bersted where it is primarily a large tank/ monster game with avatars and infantry having to be mounted in (transports where possible)

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
Farseer Talrin and his warlock bodyguards entered the Webway chamber that would lead to the world of Regis, just one more obstacle stood in the way of the invasion of a world his castings told him could cripple the eastern fringe and hasten the primordial enemy’s hold on the galaxy.
The last obstacle stood before him, his pail skin and dark hair a stark contrast to his blood red segmented armour, he wore a long cloak made from a dozen different skins, including Eldar Talrin noted. Archon Kalril stood alone and unarmed it would appear, a subtle jib implying he needed no protection, Talrin knew better then to think he did not have a Webway portal ready with reinforcements at his beck and call however.
Regardless of the subtle insults, the reason for the meeting was to find the price for his Dark kin’s help, Talrin knew it would be high and he was willing to pay it. “None of you are to speak or respond to his insults” Talrin instructed his warlocks though a mind link and received there reinsurances in like.
“Well met brother” Kalril’s mocking smile implied it was not a warm welcome. And Talrin merely bowed his head in return not rising to the bait.
“Time grows short Kalril and I need your skills in the war that is to come”
“Did you see that in your floating stones brother? Or have you and your kin finally decided to let loose and have some fun?”
Supressing a sudden desire to turn Kalril’s mind to jelly and see how he liked regenerating from that, Talrin meditated on being calm and keeping his war mask in place.
“If the threat is not stopped here Kalril then most of the eastern fringe will be consumed by a warp rift and most of your sport along with it, name your price and be done with it…. brother” the word brother made Talrin feel ill and the smile Kalril gave in return did not help.
“I see you are not in the mood for sport brother so let’s get down to business. Every soul on the plant seems reasonable to me dose it not?”
Kalril’s smile almost seemed innocent, a considerable achievement considering he had been spreading pain and misery across the galaxy for over two thousand years if not more that Talrin knew of.
“Would that include the souls of me and people Kalril? I don’t intend to play games or linger on this world and I doubt you do either. We will not stand in your of making slaves of any of the lesser races we defeat combined or alone, you can empty the city’s and drag them kicking and screaming back to your hell hole of a home, but we must start now”
Talrin could tell Kalril was surprised though he showed no sign of it on his face, he had aimed high and expected to get bartered down as was often the case in these situations, but this was an agreement to good to be true for the dark Eldar, though for just a moment Kalril seemed to consider pushing for more.
“Bargain well struck brother and I can see you don’t want to dally. To tell you true the attack has already started and my forces are already securing the city that covers the main Webway portal. When will you be joining us?”
It was Talrins turn to hide his surprise, though he knew he should not have been, the dark kin where always happy to have reason to kill and needed little excuse to raid any world.
Turning to one of his warlocks he gave the nod to get the Warhost underway.
Private Gill huddled in the drain entrance just below the bridge that ran over one of the open waste ways. Its trickle or water long sins turned red.
He didn’t know what had happened or why but everything was going wrong, there was running and screaming as well as sporadic weapons fire all over the city, bat like aircraft swarmed though there air pummelling any attempted to marshal resistance and all sorts of madness seemed to hunt and kill, with the very shadows coming alive and monsters from his nightmares stalking the streets. He had even seen a flock of birds descend and shred a group of terrified civilians to bloody offal. He had been part of the Regis 101st, 3rd platoon, defending the West gate. Without warning a green vortex appeared above the city, all he could do to describe the attackers as having floating boats painted crimson and came screaming out of the vortex with people hanging of the side spitting death from their weapons all over the city. They had held out well at first but then portals started opening around them with more red armoured warriors spilling forth, even a little nick from their weapons seemed to inspire agonising death. That was when it had all fallen apart and they had broken in every direction, he was alone now and had no idea of what to do.
Suddenly from the heart of the city a pillar of ice blue light shot into the air bathing everything in its early ghostly light before shutting off just as suddenly.
Gill had no idea what it had been but now the very earth shook and he moved further into the drain seeking cover.
Just then a man fell into the waste way landing with a bone braking crunch abruptly cutting off his scream. He was followed by a group of Red armoured warriors jumping down and landing lightly on there feet. Gill stayed stock still, no one could see him in the darkness he told himself, but the lead warrior seemed to be looking right at him and started for the drain. Gill raised his las gun and took aim, the crimson warrior stopped, tilted his head and raised both his hands backing off before bowing and signalling the others to leave, Gill was still trying to figure out what was going on as the shadows came to life behind him and consumed him.
Talrin stepped thought the threshold of Webway into a large square at the heart of the human city. Immediately he could see the south and eastern quarters of the city where all but ablaze with thick smoke rising high to join the thicker layer of clouded above, pillars of smoke and the clouds they merged with where illuminated orange and yellow by the inferno below them.
In the buildings immediately surrounding the square he could see battle damage as well as kabalite warriors clearing the last few pockets of resistance with the flash of intense gunfire coming from the interior of some of the larger cathedral like buildings. Around the edge of the square itself there where lines consisting of thousands of humans, men, women and children all watched over by yet more Kabalite warriors as they were marched through Webway portals to a short and cruel end if they were lucky.
At the heart of the square the paving had been blown out and all that was left was a gaping hole with teams of human’s slaves digging down and revelling the top of an ancient Webway portal, this would allow them to bring in the bigger war machines of the Craftworlds kin that would be needed for the battle ahead.
As Talrin took this all in at a glance his forces exited the portal behind him and would be doing likewise at a dozen other locations across the city.
If he did not ware his war mask Talrin might well have wept at what he saw let alone the deal he had struck with the Dark kin, but each human who was taken to died in the dark city was one less soul to die here and so weaken the boundary between reality’s, each dark kin who fought and fell meant one more of the Craftworlds kin would not need to and Kalril was destined to fall here for the last time.
Shaking his head he gave the order to crush the last pockets of resistance in the city and secure Webway portal, the engines of Vaul where waiting and they would be needed before the end.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
Ok so I am thinking of doing little special missions that can grant one faction or another a large dedicated area of the hex map depending on who won the most games using that mission set.
This will involve a fair bit more work from me so if you chaps are interested please say so now
First one would be for the City of Lords hold between the orks and the imperial forces.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
These are extracts from reports from Outpost 423 from both sides coms where intercepted and recorded.
Day 1
Major L,J, Simmons of the Davna Dragoons reporting.
Ork mechanised infantry detachment was spotted near the Lumpa Pass. They were engaged and driven off by forward elements of the Davna Dragoons.
Ork Warboss Impy head splitter.
Found some Oomans and they gave us a good scrap, goanna round up some more Boyz and have another go.
Day 3
Major L,J, Simmons of the Davna Dragoons reporting
Orks returned in greater numbers and tried to break though the pass, minefields and artillery won the day. Light casualties.
Ork Warboss Impy head splitter.
Found the Oomans den.
Lost a few of da boyz but got plenty more I can round up.
Might be a good fight dis one.
Day 5
Lieutenant A, P, Gallon of the Davna Dragoons reporting.
A mass of Ork battlewagons smashed through our defences and deployed Orks into the outskirts of the outpost, Major L, J Simmons is KIA and the day was only saved when our position was reinforced by space marines deploying by orbit and an imperial knights timely arrive. Skirmishes still continue on the outskirst.
Ork Warboss Impy head splitter.
Round up all da boyz ya can. We got us a good fight on our hands now, they got tin men, big stompy bots and all the little squishy Oomans you could wants.
Day 8
Brother Captain Halan of the crimson spear chapter reporting.
Outpost 423 has been all but overrun; the intense fighting has attracted all the Orks in the region and we are now facing masses of large Ork war machines the outpost is just not equipped to deal with. Our only hope is to abandon the outpost while I lead a diversionary attack the other side of the Lumpa pass. The Orks should be board of an abandoned outpost and be drawn back though the pass before they realise this is the back door to Lords keep.
Ork Warboss Impy head splitter
Some tin man cut me arm off but got me a new one with a wicked power claw so dats ok.
Oomans put up a good fight, for Oomans anyway but now they is all running off. Old Warboss lead belcher said he spotted some of the tin men putting up a good fight back across the pass. Time to kick the boys back da way we came might see if I can get me some bigger dakka on the way.

Re: Gathering Intel for a 40k Campaign
I am thinking of allowing each player to get a named unit (not sure how yet but if someone nominates a unit that did really well against them seems fair)
In essence one unit from that avatars army list that is nominated by their opponent for doing something suitably impressive gain a random warlord trait from the personal table.
To qualify the unit would.
1) have to have at least one survivor in the game,
2) not run off.
3) Must have done something really heroic/cool like the last man standing took the objective that won the game or beet a much harder opponent.
4) both myself and the owning player agree to the nomination.
As a reward the said unit must fulfil the following criteria each time they are used.
1) Be given a cool squad name.
2) always have the same wargear and squad size each game.
3) they will be given one random personal warlord trait I roll for them on a modified table that they keep for the duration of the campaign unless they are killed to a man.
What do you chaps think?
