Jungle terrain

Hi everyone, alright today's gonna be about going back to why I started 40k and especially my Catachan army. I love the jungle. I'm a big fan of the french Indochine wars, always been attracted by the Rambo style, Predators, Snipers and other film; well a big huge guy with only his dick and a knife to survive the jungle, that's the real way of life !

Anyway... So that's why I started playing Catachan.

Now, with Planestrike showing, Apocalypse ideas floating around, a campaign that might start, well, I got excited and I'm starting my own terrain, that goes with the fluff of my army. The plan overall is to buy and complete a whole transportable "Realm of battle board" (the GW modulable one), everything representing a huge piece of jungle. As I want it transportable the best idea was to create small areas that I can just display on the board once unfolded. And obviously, every piece HAS TO BE a 100% compatible with the 40k rules. And for a game of planetstrike where I defend, well I can set it up the way I want it

I ordered a lot of trees obviously, and started a few pieces of jungle (got plenty of ideas for some difficult and dangerous terrain: swamps, nests of huge insects, lair, etc...) What I've done is not too exciting, I'll get photo when I'm happy with them...

With the idea of playing Planestrike I started my first small bastion. Inspiration comes from the previous 40k rulebook for the design, I then personalised it to make it work as a bastion.






Heavy bolters as automated weapons, only two but with a greater arc of fire; one entry, but two access (ladders); 6 fire points with potentially 3 firing at the same target.

Well any critics and comments are welcome. I'll keep this topic as a blog where I'll post updates as I go.

sounds good mate they were my 1st 40k army years back and i did a jungle board was kool. pics are looking kool keep up the gd work and post more pics when u got them

Can't wait to see it painted and on table :-) I have some old GW jungle trees somewhere, not too sure of the condition but you may have them if you want?

If they are the plastic jungle one and you don't use them, yep, I'd be happy to buy them of you. What I like with these trees is that they are cheap compared to the rest of GW stuff.

Something I'm not sure about: for the plain jungle areas, is it better to just do an outter line of trees? fill the whole thing with trees ((although I'll make sure models can still move) ? or do a mix with outter line of trees and a few decorations inside ?

Am loving this idea and terrain!, I used some plastic aquariaum 'plants' for trees in my set I did a few years back. I might be wrong but I think GW do a similar idea in their terrain section to buy. If you want any my friends husband owns a large pet shop so I can ask her if we can pinch some for your project

The GW aquarium plants are £25!!!

I'm planning to keep using the GW trees for the forest in general,to help for the "overall" look of the table; they're quite cheap. But I'm gonna go to the pet store for all the details, I wanna buy some coral (to make nests ) , some aquarium plants (to make swamps and other nasty flowers), maybe some rocks ? Please don't get him into trouble, this stuff is pretty cheap, I'm gonna feel bad if i get him into trouble for stealing plants
